Repeal Tariffs Harming North Dakota Farmers

To: Gov. Armstrong, Rep. Brown, Rep. Stemen, Sen. Roers

From: A constituent in Horace, ND

April 6

The recent imposition of tariffs on Canadian goods is having severe negative consequences for American farmers, especially in border states like North Dakota. These protectionist trade policies are inflicting significant economic harm on the agricultural sector and jeopardizing the livelihoods of hard-working farming families. The tariffs have disrupted long-standing trade relationships, creating uncertainty that discourages investment critical for economic growth. Rising costs for essential inputs like fertilizer and equipment make it increasingly difficult for farmers to remain competitive and profitable. North Dakota's close economic ties with Canada mean the state's farmers are among those hit hardest by these misguided tariffs. Rather than erecting artificial trade barriers, we should be strengthening cooperation with our trusted neighbors and allies. I urge you to reconsider the tariffs and work to restore free and fair trade, which benefits all parties through increased economic opportunity and efficiency. Protectionism is ultimately self-defeating, while open markets allow American farmers to thrive by playing to their strengths. Please act to remove the tariffs and repair the damage done to this vital sector of our state's economy.
