I understand the proposal to abolish the Department of Education aims to reduce the federal government's role in education policy. However, I would urge against this drastic measure. The Department plays a vital role in ensuring equal access to quality education nationwide, administering federal student aid programs, enforcing civil rights laws in schools, and supporting educational research and innovation. Its elimination could severely undermine these crucial functions and set back efforts to improve educational outcomes across the country. Rather than abolishing it entirely, I believe we should focus on constructive reforms to enhance the Department's effectiveness and responsiveness to state and local needs while maintaining its essential responsibilities. Our nation's future prosperity depends on a well-educated populace.
