Investigate OPM restructuring, uphold non-partisan civil service

To: Rep. Deluzio, Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Pittsburgh, PA

February 3, 2025

The situation described regarding the takeover of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) by individuals with ties to Elon Musk and his companies is deeply concerning. The placement of inexperienced and partisan personnel in key leadership roles threatens the integrity and non-partisan nature of this critical government agency. Of particular alarm are the reports of individuals aligned with extreme ideological agendas now occupying senior advisory positions, as well as the potential misuse of technology like AI to improperly target career civil servants. This apparent restructuring of the OPM to serve the political aims of a single administration goes against long-standing principles of an independent civil service. Urgent action is needed to investigate these troubling developments and uphold the democratic values that underpin our system of public service. The American people deserve a professional, ethical, and non-partisan federal workforce dedicated to serving the interests of the nation as a whole.
