An Open Letter

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Rulli

From: A constituent in Barnesville, OH

July 17

I am writing as one of your constituents to urge you to support a formal congressional investigation into President Donald Trump’s recent conduct and statements regarding the integrity of American elections. During his national address on July 16, the President again used the authority of the presidency to promote claims about past elections that have been widely disputed and repeatedly rejected by courts, election officials, and numerous prior investigations. Whether one agrees with his policies or not, the office of the President carries immense influence, and Americans deserve confidence that official statements are grounded in credible evidence. I am not asking Congress to prejudge the outcome. I am asking Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty of oversight. If the President has evidence supporting his claims, it should be examined transparently. If he does not, Congress should determine whether using the office of the presidency to advance unsupported allegations constitutes conduct inconsistent with the President’s oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. Should the facts uncovered demonstrate impeachable conduct, I ask that you support the constitutional process, regardless of political party. No President should be above accountability, and no investigation should be dismissed simply because it is politically difficult. Please place your loyalty to the Constitution above partisan interests and ensure that the American people receive a full, fair, and transparent accounting of these events. Thank you for your service and for considering my concerns.
