No Taxpayer Money for January 6 Participants

To: Sen. Sullivan, Sen. Murkowski, Rep. Begich

From: A constituent in Anchor Point, AK

May 19

I am outraged by reports that the settlement of Donald Trump’s IRS lawsuit will create a taxpayer-funded “Anti-Weaponization Fund” that could compensate January 6 defendants and political allies. Americans watched a violent attack on the Capitol and assaults on law enforcement officers. Rewarding or compensating individuals connected to that attack is unacceptable and deeply damaging to public trust. This appears to turn taxpayer money into a political loyalty fund controlled by Trump allies. That is not equal justice under the law. It is a dangerous abuse of government power and a betrayal of democratic accountability. I urge you to publicly oppose any use of federal funds to compensate January 6 participants and to support legislation preventing these payouts. Americans deserve transparency, constitutional accountability, and equal application of the law — not politically directed settlements benefiting extremists and allies of the president.
