Demand State Investigation of Election Equipment Security Before 2026 Midterms

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth

From: A constituent in Arnold, MD

February 13

I am writing to urge your office to immediately initiate a comprehensive investigation into election equipment security before the 2026 midterm elections. This is not a partisan issue. This is about ensuring the integrity of our democratic process and protecting every voter's constitutional right to free and fair elections. Trump allies illegally breached voting equipment in five states between 2020 and 2021. That same compromised equipment may still be in use for upcoming elections. On December 17, 2025, Special Counsel Jack Smith testified in a closed-door deposition that his investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump and loyalists engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 election results. Smith warned that covering up election crimes would be catastrophic for democracy. The 2024 election raised serious questions that demand answers. Over 1.5 million votes for Kamala Harris allegedly disappeared in real time. Machine counts exceeded hand counts by six to eight percent in some locations. In Pennsylvania, a ballot access lawsuit documented counties where votes cast exceeded registered voters by as much as 1,265 percent. Precinct level data failed to match state level data in multiple jurisdictions. These are not minor discrepancies. These are fundamental failures of election integrity that undermine public confidence across the political spectrum. Your office has the authority and responsibility to investigate these irregularities. I am specifically requesting that you open an investigation to reconcile why precinct level data does not match state level data, audit the security of all election equipment currently in use, determine whether any equipment compromised in the 2020-2021 breaches remains operational, and investigate the role of third party data reporting services in election night reporting. Over 41 percent of Democratic voters do not believe Trump legitimately won the 2024 election. This erosion of public trust threatens the foundation of our republic. State attorneys general have the power to act independently of federal interference. I urge you to use that power now, before the 2026 midterms, to restore confidence in our electoral system and ensure every vote is counted accurately.
