I'm writing to express my horror and anger that the State would not only create "Alligator Alcatraz,” but also go so far as to relish in the nickname. Your morals and values reflect neither mine nor those of the Christian teachings you claim to follow. First, you ignore due process, a basic principle for detention in a civilized society. Then you build an erector set of a facility without basic human rights and dignity in mind to punish people who are trying to make a life for themselves in the US. Even if — and that’s IF — they have committed civil offenses, the vast majority are clearly not violent criminals. And, even if they were, this is not the Middle Ages and we as a civilized society should be more sophisticated than this. I am furious to see grown men celebrating inhumanity. It is unconscionable. Beg God for forgiveness and start treating other humans as made in His image, because they are.
