I am writing to express serious concern regarding reports that military action was taken against Iran without prior Congressional authorization. The Constitution clearly gives Congress the authority to declare war, ensuring that decisions of this magnitude are made with accountability and the consent of the American people.
What is especially alarming is that this does not appear to be an isolated incident. This is now the third time that military force has reportedly been used without proper authorization from Congress. A repeated pattern of bypassing Congress is not just a procedural issue. It is a direct challenge to the constitutional system of checks and balances.
When any president, regardless of party, takes unilateral military action, it risks escalating conflict, endangering American service members, and undermining the rule of law. If Congress allows this pattern to continue unchecked, it effectively gives up its constitutional authority and sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate and serious action. Congress must conduct a full and transparent investigation into these actions and determine whether they violated the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution. If a pattern of abuse of executive power is confirmed, then Congress has a responsibility to consider all constitutional remedies, including impeachment.
This is not about partisan politics. It is about preserving the constitutional balance of power that protects our democracy. No president should be allowed to repeatedly bypass Congress and take the nation into conflict without accountability.
I urge you to uphold your oath to the Constitution and act accordingly.
