Please oppose H.R. 7661 - “The Stop Sexualization of Children Act.” Not only is it just a thinly veiled attempt to ban books, it’s aimed to hurt some of our most vulnerable people in the LGBTQIA+ community. Instead please advocate for better funding and support for libraries and education. As the American Library Association wrote in their website, “Rather than targeting librarians and teachers, Congress should invest in them. The Right to Read Act offers a better path, supporting well-staffed and well-resourced school libraries, strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, and protecting the dedicated professionals who help young people discover books that open doors and expand horizons.”
