An Open Letter

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Crenshaw

From: A verified voter in Kingwood, TX

January 23

I am writing as a constituent to express deep concern and disappointment over your continued failure to uphold the oath you swore to defend the United States Constitution. Your oath was not to a political party, a former president, or a personal ideology. It was to the Constitution and to the people you serve. Yet your recent actions and public positions suggest a willingness to excuse or normalize conduct that directly undermines democratic institutions, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power. The Constitution is not a suggestion. It is the foundation of our republic. When elected officials minimize attacks on elections, ignore clear ethical violations, or enable efforts to weaken checks and balances, they are not engaging in “politics.” They are eroding the very system they were entrusted to protect. I expect my representatives to defend free and fair elections, respect judicial independence, support the separation of powers, and reject any attempt to place one individual above the law. Silence or complicity in the face of constitutional violations is not neutrality. It is a choice. You were elected to serve the public interest, not partisan power. I urge you to recommit publicly and substantively to constitutional principles, democratic norms, and the responsibilities of your office. That includes holding all leaders accountable, regardless of party, and rejecting rhetoric or policies that threaten civil liberties, democratic governance, or the integrity of our institutions. History will remember who defended democracy when it was tested and who looked away. I hope you will choose to be on the right side of that record.
