Trump's executive order, signed August 27, that tells federal agencies to swap "Lake Ontario" for "Lake America" is UNACCEPTABLE. Canada, New York State, international shipping charts, private mapmakers, and all of your constituents are free to ignore it, and most will because this is a ridiculous egomaniacal power trip. The name it replaces derives from the Wendat word Ontari'io, translated as "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big." The Great Lakes acronym was HOMES, now it is SHAME. It was a much better fitting name that predates both Canadian Confederation and the Declaration of Independence. A President cannot be allowed to change geographical or historical names that predate our Declaration without approval and votes. This is absolutely embarrassing and disgusting. Lake Ontario has 53% surface in Canada and 47% in New York, so not only is it already supposed to be a shared lake, but it’s predominantly in Canada. This was a childish power play to damage ongoing trade negotiations with Canada and weaken collaboration with our neighboring country, that has more right to name it after themselves, but they actually have decorum and diplomacy, unlike our felon rapist President. This is not the first time Trump has changed long standing historical or geographical landmarks to “America” or “Trump” and this is asinine and SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED. A living, sitting president should NEVER be allowed to rename governmental, historical, or geographical landmarks after themself or stamping our country. We’re literally the youngest country, all others have longer history than us, but there’s no Canada lake or Mexico lake or anything else because it’s moronic. He has threatened multiple times to rename an ocean after America as well, which doesn’t make sense in any way. These names were chosen with thought and care at least hundreds of years ago. What happened to your standards? What happened to expecting maturity, diplomacy, informed statements, and basic morality from a President? The Epstein files still have not been fully released and investigated, and Trump is mentioned hundreds of thousands of times.
