I’m writing as a constituent because I’m angry about what’s happening and about Congress’s role in allowing it to continue. You keep voting to fund the Department of Homeland Security while saying you’re concerned about ICE’s actions, and those two things do not square. Masked federal agents are dragging people out of their homes in the freezing cold, arresting children, and offering little explanation for what’s happening, all with money Congress continues to approve. I cannot see how this is possibly constitutional, and I don’t understand how elected officials can watch this unfold and keep funding it anyway. If lawmakers truly believed this was wrong, the funding would be restricted or at least debated openly instead of buried in must-pass bills while constituents are told there was no choice. There was a choice.
Right now your statements sound a lot like thoughts and prayers, empty words offered while nothing actually changes. Stop being cowards worried about your jobs and start using your voices while you still have them. I am not asking for concern. I am telling you to act. Stop funding the parts of DHS and ICE carrying this out and force real, public votes. Silence and inaction will not be forgotten.
