I am a Pennsylvania constituent writing to urge you to oppose any further funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE has developed a documented pattern of due process violations, prolonged civil detention, family separation, and preventable deaths in custody. These are not edge cases. They are the predictable outcome of an agency that relies on detention as punishment, operates with weak oversight, and repeatedly fails to meet basic standards of care.
As a Senator who has spoken clearly about dignity, fairness, and accountability, I ask you to apply those values here. Civil immigration enforcement should not function like a shadow criminal system. Pennsylvanians should not be asked to fund practices that courts, inspectors general, and independent investigators have already shown to be unlawful and harmful.
This is also a matter of fiscal responsibility. Billions of taxpayer dollars flow into detention contracts and enforcement strategies that do not improve safety or compliance. Community-based case management programs are cheaper, more effective, and far more humane. Continuing to fund a broken system is not toughness. It is negligence.
Congress controls the purse. I urge you to oppose further ICE funding and to publicly support a shift toward lawful, accountable, and humane alternatives. Please make your position clear to the people of Pennsylvania.
