I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recently announced agreement allowing Qatar to build an air force facility at Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho. This decision poses a clear and present danger to our national security and sovereignty. The plan to host Qatari F-15s and pilots on American soil is an unprecedented move that raises serious concerns. While Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has praised Qatar's role in mediating Gaza ceasefire negotiations, we must not overlook the potential risks of allowing a foreign military presence within our borders. This agreement comes on the heels of President Trump's executive order pledging to defend Qatar, similar to a NATO alliance. However, recent events in the Middle East highlight the volatility of the region and the potential for rapid shifts in alliances. On September 9th, Israeli airstrikes targeted Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar's capital. Furthermore, Iran recently attacked the US's largest Middle East military base, al-Udeid, which is hosted by Qatar. These incidents underscore the complex and often unpredictable nature of Middle Eastern politics. By allowing Qatar to establish a military presence on our soil, we risk entangling ourselves further in regional conflicts and potentially compromising our own security. The proposed facility at Mountain Home Airbase would not only give a foreign power unprecedented access to our military infrastructure but also potentially expose our own personnel and technology to security risks. This move could set a dangerous precedent for other nations seeking similar arrangements on US soil. I urge you to take immediate action to halt this agreement. Our national defense strategy should prioritize protecting our borders and maintaining full control over our military installations. Instead of allowing foreign powers to build facilities on our soil, we should focus on strengthening our own capabilities and fostering international cooperation through less invasive means. Please voice your opposition to this agreement in Congress and work towards reversing this decision. Our national security and the safety of American citizens must come first. We cannot afford to take risks with foreign military presence on our own territory.
