Support Ossoff's Strategy: Go on Offense Against Trump

To: Rep. Chu, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

August 22

Take a page from Jon Ossoff's playbook. While most Democrats are playing defense, Ossoff figured out how to put Trump on his heels — by naming names, staying specific, and refusing to flinch when the White House fires back. That's the model. Follow it. When Ossoff called out Trump for flying separately from his own Secretary of State and Treasury Secretary during an Iranian missile threat — on a jet gifted by the Emir of Qatar, no less — the White House didn't ignore it. They melted down. Steven Cheung resorted to slurs. Trump started calling Ossoff "Pee-Wee Herman." That's not the response of a confident administration. That's a hit dog hollering. The lesson is simple: specific, targeted attacks work. Ossoff didn't traffic in vague talking points about democracy or norms. He picked a concrete, vivid story and hammered it. The result was a week of bad press for the White House and a fundraising surge for him. Stop playing it safe. Get specific, get loud, and make them respond.
