I am writing to express my deep concern about ongoing abuses of executive power that threaten the constitutional framework of our democracy.
We are seeing a troubling pattern of actions that concentrate power in the executive branch while weakening essential checks and balances. These actions include the use of emergency powers to bypass established law, efforts to delegitimize Congress, and retaliation against critics and political opponents. This trajectory undermines the separation of powers and the rule of law.
I am especially alarmed by the use of federal authority to intimidate or punish dissent, including attacks on the press and efforts to erode judicial independence. These behaviors are incompatible with democratic governance, where power must be accountable and subject to oversight.
Congress has a constitutional duty to act when executive power is abused. I urge you to take clear and decisive steps to defend democratic norms and uphold the Constitution by condemning authoritarian behavior, refusing to support funding that enables unconstitutional actions without oversight, and supporting investigations into abuses of power and misuse of office.
If a president repeatedly defies the law and exceeds constitutional authority, accountability measures including impeachment must be pursued. Failing to act signals acceptance of executive overreach and weakens the institutions designed to protect our democracy.
I expect Congress to serve as a co equal branch of government, not a bystander. Protecting the Constitution requires courage, independence, and a willingness to act in defense of democratic principles.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
