Demand Action Against Presidential Abuses of Power and Authoritarian Overreach

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

January 25

I am writing to express my deep concern about President Trump's ongoing abuses of power and his pattern of violent authoritarian rhetoric. As your constituent, I am demanding that you take immediate action to defend our constitutional system of checks and balances. Trump has repeatedly called for revenge and violence against political rivals, undermining the peaceful democratic norms that have sustained our republic for over two centuries. He has deployed military forces in American cities, misused emergency powers to bypass congressional authority, and defied federal court orders. These actions represent a direct assault on the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution. I am particularly alarmed by credible reports that Trump has weaponized the Department of Justice for political purposes and used the White House to solicit bribes from private companies, billionaires, and foreign countries. This personal profiting from the presidency violates the public trust and potentially multiple federal laws. Additionally, his attacks on freedom of speech, dissent, and state election authority threaten the foundations of our democratic system. I am calling on you to take the following actions immediately. First, forcefully and publicly condemn Trump's calls for revenge and violence against political opponents. Second, refuse to pass any blank check federal spending bill that enables this administration's unconstitutional practices. Third, launch comprehensive investigations into Trump's use of his office to solicit bribes and personal financial gain. Fourth, support articles of impeachment and vote to convict and remove Trump for his repeated defiance of the law. Finally, pledge to investigate and prosecute any government official who has participated in illegal actions under this administration. Congress is a co-equal branch of government with the constitutional duty to check executive overreach. If you will not fulfill this fundamental responsibility to protect our democracy, I will use my power as a voter to support a representative who will. Our republic depends on elected officials who will defend it against authoritarian takeover.
