I’m a single American woman whose only child is a cat. As an American woman in this position, I take great offense to the incoming vice president’s comments.
Since I got a job and my own place nearly 17 years ago, I’ve donated portions of my salary each year to various charities, including Wounded Warrior Project, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Donors Choose to help teachers get supplies for their classrooms, and animal shelters. I also paid taxes to fund government programs.
My point? Not having human children does not make you selfish, and it doesn’t mean you don’t contribute to the country. It just means you chose to contribute in a different way than other Americans.
I’d like representatives to speak out against these comments. I’m from a generation whose members grew up believing that all Americans - regardless of sex or race - could choose their own path in life. We would like to believe that this is still true.
