I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent shift in ICE enforcement priorities. Despite public claims that ICE is focused on removing violent criminals—murderers, rapists, and terrorists—recent data shows that more immigrants without criminal records are being detained than those with convictions or charges.
This is unacceptable. The United States should not be conducting mass detentions of individuals who pose no threat to public safety. The use of federal agents to arrest peaceful residents, the deployment of helicopters in residential neighborhoods, and the zip-tying of children are tactics more befitting a war zone than a democracy.
I urge you to:
- Demand a full accounting of ICE’s current enforcement practices
- Require transparency on how targets are selected and what oversight exists
- Reaffirm that immigration enforcement must prioritize violent offenders—not peaceful families
- Support legislation to restrict ICE’s ability to deputize local police and divert federal agents from critical criminal investigations
We must not allow fear and political theater to override justice and humanity. I ask you to stand up for the rule of law and the dignity of all people living in this country
