Restore public health data access for all Americans

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Tran

From: A constituent in Fountain Valley, CA

February 6

The sudden removal of vital public health data and information from federal websites is deeply concerning and poses a threat to the well-being of all Americans. Access to comprehensive and accurate data on infectious diseases, adolescent health, reproductive care, and other critical public health issues is essential for communities, healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers to effectively monitor trends, respond to outbreaks, and develop evidence-based strategies to protect public health. This data belongs to the American people and was compiled using taxpayer funds. Its removal not only undermines transparency but also erodes the public's trust in institutions meant to safeguard their health and safety. The government must immediately restore all previously available datasets, web pages, and resources related to public health. Abruptly taking down this vital information without clear justification or communication disrupts the crucial work of scientists, clinicians, and public health officials in tracking and addressing health issues that impact every community across the nation. Maintaining comprehensive and accessible public health data is a matter of protecting the well-being of all Americans, regardless of their demographics or backgrounds. A fully transparent and accountable approach is needed to ensure equal access to the information necessary for robust public health efforts nationwide.
