Demand Full Compliance with Epstein Transparency Act

To: Sen. Moreno, Rep. Turner, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Dayton, OH

December 21

I am writing to express serious concern about the Department of Justice's inadequate compliance with the Epstein Transparency Act. The DOJ's recent release of files to the Epstein Library website falls far short of the transparency Congress mandated and the public deserves. Within 24 hours of the initial Friday release, more than a dozen files disappeared from public access by Saturday afternoon. This is unacceptable. Rep. Thomas Massie, who cosponsored the Epstein Transparency Act, correctly stated that this release "grossly fails to comply with both the spirit and the letter of the law." He warned that future DOJ officials could face conviction for failing to properly release all mandated files. These are not idle concerns when an agency removes documents from public view within a day of posting them. The DOJ claims it made reasonable efforts to review materials given the volume and Congressional deadline, but this excuse is insufficient. If the agency needed more time to conduct proper review, it should have requested an extension rather than posting files it would immediately retract. The provided email address for reporting improperly posted files suggests the DOJ conducted inadequate review before release. Rep. Ro Khanna stated that powerful men including bankers and politicians who attended parties where young women, some underage, were present need to be publicly held accountable. Excessive redactions and disappearing documents prevent this accountability. The House Democratic Oversight Committee already released over 20,000 documents from the Epstein estate, demonstrating that comprehensive disclosure is possible. I urge you to demand the DOJ release all files as Congress intended, with only legally required redactions to protect victim identities. The public has a right to know which powerful figures were connected to a convicted sex offender. Transparency cannot be optional when accountability is at stake.
