An Open Letter
To: Rep. Comer
From: A constituent in Sedalia, KY
May 10
The immigration system in the United States lacks basic due process protections, resulting in an unconstitutional deprivation of rights. No one should be detained without a fair bond hearing where the government bears the burden of proving a flight risk or danger to the community. Mandatory deportation laws needlessly separate families by failing to consider the circumstances of each case. Reform is urgently needed to restore judicial discretion and access to counsel, as over half of those in immigration proceedings lack legal representation. Depriving immigrants of due process violates fundamental human rights and undermines our legal system's integrity. We must demand reforms that uphold the constitutional principles of fairness and equal protection for all.
