I am writing to express my strongest disapproval regarding any proposed tax increases intended to fund "Universal Child Care" or similar city-wide expansions. It is unconscionable to consider increasing the tax burden on hardworking citizens without first conducting a full, independent audit of all existing city services. We currently lack the necessary data to determine if the billions already being spent are being used efficiently or effectively. New York City must find a way to manage its own initiatives within its existing budget rather than seeking further state-level funding or tax hikes. We cannot afford to follow the fiscal paths of other states that have seen similar programs lead to unchecked spending. I urge you to vote NO on the Mamdani Child Care proposal. Our priority must be fiscal accountability and a thorough audit of current city spending before a single cent of new taxes is discussed.
