Stop The Patriot Front in Iowa!

To: Sen. Grassley, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Des Moines, IA

February 24

I am deeply concerned about the recent activities of the white supremacist group, Patriot Front, in our state. On February 22, 2025, masked members marched around the Iowa State Capitol and through Des Moines’ East Village, displaying banners with messages such as “Deport Invaders: Keep America, American” and chanting slogans like “Reclaim America.” Patriot Front, identified by the FBI as a far-right group that emerged from Vanguard America after the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, promotes an ideology rooted in white nationalism and supremacy. Their beliefs mirror those of historical Nazi principles, including: 1. Racial Supremacy: Advocating for the dominance of a specific race, asserting that America was founded by and for white Europeans. 2. Ultranationalism: Seeking to establish a homogeneous nation-state that excludes those they consider outsiders. 3. Authoritarianism: Favoring centralized, authoritarian governance to enforce their ideologies and maintain societal control. 4. Antisemitism and Xenophobia: Harboring deep-seated antisemitic and xenophobic sentiments. The presence and activities of such groups pose a significant threat to the fabric of our diverse and democratic society. Their attempts to intimidate and spread hate undermine the principles of equality and justice that our nation strives to uphold. In light of these events, I urge you to take the following actions: 1. Publicly Denounce Patriot Front and Similar Groups: Issue a clear and unequivocal statement condemning the activities and ideologies of Patriot Front and other white supremacist organizations operating within our state. 2. Implement Protective Measures: Collaborate with local law enforcement and community organizations to monitor and counteract the activities of these groups, ensuring the safety and security of all residents. 3. Promote Educational Initiatives: Support programs that educate the public about the dangers of hate groups and the importance of diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. 4. Strengthen Legislation: Advocate for laws that address hate crimes and provide law enforcement with the necessary tools to combat the spread of extremist ideologies. The Department of Homeland Security has identified domestic violent extremism, particularly from white supremacist groups, as a priority threat, noting that such extremists have become “exceptionally lethal” in their attacks. Should you choose not to make a public statement denouncing these groups and take action I respectfully request a detailed explanation of your position. Additionally, please provide your assessment of why you believe Americans are not at risk from organizations that preach hatred and intolerance. Our state’s residents look to you for leadership and assurance that their safety and the preservation of our democratic values are of utmost priority.
