I am writing to express my strong opposition to Donald Trump’s proposals that would weaken Social Security’s long‑term stability. Social Security is not an abstract policy debate for me — it is a program I have paid into for decades and one I expect to rely on in retirement. Any plan that threatens its funding or reduces future benefits is unacceptable. Several of Trump’s stated positions raise serious concerns. He has repeatedly suggested eliminating or reducing payroll taxes, which are the primary source of Social Security’s revenue. According to the Social Security Administration, payroll taxes fund roughly 90 percent of the program’s income. Removing or shrinking that revenue stream would push Social Security toward insolvency far faster, forcing benefit cuts for retirees, disabled Americans, and survivors who depend on it. Trump has also indicated openness to restructuring entitlement programs in ways that could reduce benefits over time. For millions of Americans — including those who have worked their entire lives — even small reductions would create real financial hardship. Social Security is not a luxury; it is a foundational part of retirement security in this country. I believe any responsible leader should strengthen Social Security, not undermine it. That means protecting its dedicated funding, rejecting benefit cuts, and ensuring the program remains solvent for future generations. Americans deserve clear, honest plans that preserve what we have earned — not proposals that jeopardize it. I urge you to reject any policy that weakens Social Security’s funding or reduces benefits.
