Congress Must Act: The Supreme Court Is Enabling Authoritarianism

In just eight months, Donald Trump has sought emergency intervention by the Supreme Court twenty-eight times—more than Presidents Bush, Obama, and Biden did combined over two decades. That is not governance. That is authoritarianism cloaked in the language of “emergency.” And it is being enabled by a Supreme Court that has abandoned its role as an impartial check on executive power. We are watching, in real time, a coordinated effort to dismantle democracy and concentrate power in the hands of one man. Every time the Court grants one of these extraordinary interventions, it chips away at the very foundation of our constitutional balance. This is not how a democracy functions. It is how autocracies rise. The Supreme Court has become complicit in Trump’s abuse of authority. The Justices—particularly those appointed by him—are no longer acting as neutral arbiters, but as political operatives protecting their benefactor. Their willingness to fast-track his demands while ignoring precedent, ethics, and the rule of law is deeply dangerous. It sends a chilling message: that one man’s grievances and ambitions now outweigh the rights and freedoms of 330 million Americans. Congress cannot continue to stand by while the Court is used as a political weapon. It is your duty to act as a co-equal branch of government—to hold hearings, pursue oversight, and, if necessary, reform the Court to restore legitimacy. You swore an oath to defend the Constitution, not to bow to a demagogue or his hand-picked justices. We need immediate steps to: – Investigate the Supreme Court’s ethical failures and conflicts of interest. – Explore legislation that limits or clearly defines the scope of emergency interventions. – Reinforce checks and balances between the branches of government. – Publicly denounce Trump’s misuse of judicial processes as a means of consolidating power. Every day you remain silent, the damage deepens. This is not a partisan issue—it is a national emergency. The Supreme Court was designed to serve the people, not the president. Yet it now acts as a shield for corruption, extremism, and revenge politics. History will remember who had the courage to speak out and who hid behind political convenience. You have a moral obligation to defend democracy before it collapses entirely under the weight of one man’s authoritarian ambitions. The people of this country are paying attention. We are angry, we are frightened, and we are demanding accountability—from all branches of government. Stand up now, before it’s too late.
