I am writing to express my outrage and deep concern over former President Donald J. Trump’s flagrant defiance of the United States Supreme Court’s recent ruling in United States v. Department of Homeland Security, which ordered the immediate repatriation and release of Kilmer Abrego Garcia from an El Salvadoran prison. The Court found that Mr. Abrego Garcia, a lawful U.S. resident, was wrongly deported and unjustly imprisoned due to a series of unconstitutional actions taken during the Trump administration. Yet, Mr. Trump has brazenly disregarded this decision, calling it “illegitimate” and instructing his allies in government to obstruct its implementation. This is a direct and dangerous attack on the Constitution and the foundational principles of our democracy. The Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in the United States, and its rulings are binding. Trump’s refusal to comply with the Court’s decision constitutes an open rejection of the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the system of checks and balances our Constitution demands. This is not merely a political dispute — it is a constitutional crisis. Furthermore, Mr. Trump’s actions, and those of any current officials who choose to follow his direction rather than obey the lawful orders of the Court, demonstrate an egregious abuse of power. If a former or aspiring president can simply ignore rulings from the Supreme Court, the very fabric of our republic is in jeopardy.
I demand that you take immediate action and introduce or support a petition for impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump for his role in obstructing justice, undermining the authority of the judiciary, and violating his oath to uphold the Constitution. No person — especially one who has held the highest office in the land — is above the law. To allow these actions to stand without consequence would set a terrifying precedent that weakens our democracy for generations. The country is watching. Please do not allow this moment to pass without action. Uphold your oath. Protect our democracy.
