You must require the Administration to fulfill its legal duty to release SNAP’s contingency fund, which exists for moments like these. This would ensure nearly 150,000 Nebraskans can continue to put food on the table for the next month, the beginning of the holiday season. Nonprofits like food banks and pantries can’t make up for the loss in SNAP benefits. For every 1 meal served by a food bank, 9 are provided by SNAP. Food banks and pantries will be overwhelmed by the sudden and enormous need. SNAP benefits support families but also local economies including grocers, farmers and ranchers. Retailers rely on SNAP income to operate.
