"I am writing to express my deep concern over a grave First Amendment violation that demands immediate Congressional attention.
According to multiple reports, ICE agents recently arrested Jason Carroll, a journalist with CNN, and explicitly stated that his detainment was due to his affiliation with the press. This is not only a direct attack on freedom of the press, it is unconstitutional. The First Amendment protects journalists from government retaliation for simply doing their jobs. Arresting a member of the press for covering events is the kind of authoritarian overreach we condemn in other countries.
This is a moment that cannot go unanswered. I urge you to call for a full Congressional investigation into this incident, and to publicly support legal action that could bring this matter before the Supreme Court. The agents involved, along with senior figures like Tom Homan and President Trump, if found to be complicit, must be held accountable for any violations of constitutional rights.
The protection of a free press is a cornerstone of democracy. I respectfully request that you use the power of your office to defend it."
