I urge you to add your name to the Dream and Promise Discharge Petition, bill number HR 1598. This bill would protect millions of immigrant youth, DACA recipients and TPS holders and our economies. A functioning economy needs stability, but that’s not possible when millions of working people are losing their status. Programs like DACA and TPS might be temporary, but the careers, families and lives built over decades are not. Millions of immigrants are responsible for keeping our nation functioning: taking care of patients in our rural hospitals, teaching our children in our schools, running local businesses, and building homes. The majority of Americans support a pathway to citizenship for our neighbors who have built their lives here, and the Dream and Promise act would allow that while protecting our economy. If DACA ends, as many as 440,000 DACA recipient workers could be pushed out of the U.S. workforce. This would cost the U.S. economy up to $648 billion in future economic losses. There are more than 250,000 U.S. citizen children who have a parent with DACA. DACA’s slow death would undoubtedly destroy hundreds of thousands of families. TPS holders contribute $5.9 billion to our economy every year and pay more than $1.5 billion in taxes. They work in our hospitals, schools, restaurants, construction sites, and small businesses. More than 250,000 U.S. citizen children have a parent with DACA and more than 50,000 U.S. citizen children have a parent with TPS from Haiti. When parents lose the ability to work legally, entire families and communities can be pushed into financial crisis. Without protections, hundreds of thousands of American families face permanent separation. I urge you to add your name to the Dream and Promise Discharge Petition. No young person should have to build a life on borrowed time, and no family should have to wonder if everything they have built will disappear overnight. This is your opportunity to stand with everyday working people that keep our state running, and show that you’re willing to support a future that works for us, and not a future of political dysfunction and chaos So, I urge you to lead with moral clarity and fight to protect the lives of working people. Today, I ask you to protect the future of our communities and support the Dream and Promise Act!
