Reject Putin visit upholding international law and Ukraine sovereignty

To: Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

August 12

Facilitating a meeting between President Trump and Vladimir Putin on American soil would undermine the foundational principles upheld by the United States since World War II. The 1994 Budapest Memorandum committed the U.S. to securing Ukraine's borders in exchange for their denuclearization, yet Russia has repeatedly violated this agreement through its illegal invasions in 2014 and 2022. Welcoming Putin, an accused war criminal indicted by the International Criminal Court, reinforces the dangerous precedent that nations can acquire territory through military force, jeopardizing global security and stability. As a nation dedicated to the rule of law and human rights, the United States must uphold its commitment to Ukraine and refuse to provide Putin a platform that legitimizes his unjustified aggression. Prioritizing diplomacy over appeasement aligns with American values and international norms.
