By declaring broad 10-percent, then 15-percent, international tariffs, this Republican administration is openly defying the United States Supreme Court. Having already neutered the legislative branch of our government, this administration is now blatantly attempting to do the same with the judicial branch. 250 years ago, we declared our independence from George III. Will we continue to be a nation of laws, or will we revert to a monarchy? My ancestors fought to create and preserve this republic. They fought at Bunker Hill and Yorktown and were part of the Lewis and Clark expedition. My father, my brother and two of my uncles are in national cemeteries. Allowing this administration to dismantle our democracy dishonors them all. By not reining in the administration, you and your congressional colleagues are complicit in its flagrant assault on our democracy. You have the power, and the constitutionally-given authority, to save our republic. Why are you not doing so? My wife and I implore you to reclaim your power as a member of Congress, act as a check on this authoritarian administration, and preserve our American democracy.
