Paxton: Stop wasting taxpayer money on divisive political stunts!

To: Gov. Abbott, Sen. Zaffirini, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Flores

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

January 29

As proud Texans, we are writing to express our frustration with your decision to sue Costco over its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. This lawsuit feels like yet another example of using your office to manufacture problems where none exist, rather than addressing the very real challenges Texans face every day. Over the past year, your actions have repeatedly strayed from the responsibilities of protecting Texans. You were impeached on allegations of bribery and abuse of office to benefit a campaign donor—allegations that remain unresolved in the eyes of many Texans despite your Senate acquittal. The whistleblower lawsuit tied to this scandal is still pending, leaving questions about how you retaliated against employees who reported your alleged misconduct to the FBI. Meanwhile, your failure to disclose real estate holdings as required by law raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability. Instead of focusing on these unresolved issues or on serving Texans, you’ve prioritized lawsuits like the one against the NCAA over transgender athletes—legal battles that seem designed more to score political points than to protect or benefit the people of Texas. We are deeply disappointed that so much of your energy is spent on divisive distractions instead of addressing the real issues that matter to Texans. Human trafficking continues to plague our state, violent crime remains a concern in many communities, and families are struggling with skyrocketing healthcare costs and housing affordability. These are the issues that demand your attention—not lawsuits targeting private businesses for embracing inclusivity or policies that reflect their values. Your actions do not reflect the values of fairness, integrity, or opportunity that so many Texans hold dear. Instead, they make us embarrassed for our state’s leadership. We urge you to stop using your office for partisan stunts and personal gain and start doing the job you were elected to do: protecting Texans and upholding justice for all.
