Trump’s firing of the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. Trump, as always, is just trying to save face and make himself look good by lying and denying reality. There is ZERO evidence that the economic data the BLS released was at all manipulated. Perhaps Trump should stop destroying the economy rather than destroying it and then shooting the messenger when bad economic data is released. This firing is completely authoritarian and will cause a lack of trust in data that is considered the gold standard of economic data. Any precedents you allow Trump to set will be used by future Democratic presidents. Protect the independence of BLS and hold Trump accountable for this outrage.
