Investigate FBI Dir. Kash Patel’s Abuse of Taxpayer-Funded Aircraft Immediately
To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
February 24
I am writing as your constituent to demand an immediate, public investigation into FBI Director Kash Patel’s apparent misuse of government aircraft for personal travel. Reports indicate that Director Patel used an FBI jet to travel to Italy, where he appeared in the gold medal locker room of the U.S. Hockey Team during the Winter Olympics. The American people are told this was “official business.” If that is true, then Congress must demand documentation explaining precisely what official FBI purpose was served by celebrating in an Olympic locker room overseas. Because from the outside, this looks like something else entirely. Further reports suggest that Director Patel has used FBI aircraft for personal trips, including leisure travel such as a golf excursion to Scotland and a visit to a luxury hunting retreat known as “Boondoggle Ranch.” If these trips were taxpayer-funded, that is not a perk of office — that is a betrayal of public trust. Government aircraft are not vacation shuttles. They are funded by hardworking Americans — families who are struggling with rising costs, veterans who rely on federal services, and communities who expect law enforcement leaders to prioritize national security, not personal convenience. Even more troubling is the apparent hypocrisy. Director Patel previously criticized former FBI Director Christopher Wray over government plane usage. If he condemned such conduct before assuming office, why is he now defending similar travel under the guise of being “entitled to a personal life”? Public service is not a lifestyle brand. It is a responsibility. If Director Patel’s travel was legitimate and necessary for national security, then release the logs. Release the cost breakdown. Release the mission justifications. Transparency would end this immediately. If it was not legitimate, then Congress must act. That means: • A full Inspector General investigation • Public disclosure of flight manifests and cost records • Reimbursement to taxpayers for any improper travel • Clear guardrails to prevent future abuse No official — regardless of party — gets to treat taxpayer-funded assets as personal transportation. The FBI Director’s job is to uphold the law and protect the American people. If there is even a credible question that federal resources are being diverted for personal benefit, that demands oversight. We deserve accountability. We deserve transparency. And we deserve leaders who understand that public funds are not their private allowance.
