This bill makes drastic cuts to vital safety net programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Cutting nearly $800 billion from Medicaid would strip health coverage from millions of low-income families, including over 400,000 children in Colorado alone. SNAP cuts would reduce food assistance to a meager $1.60 per person per meal on average. These programs provide essential services that keep families out of poverty and ensure access to healthcare and nutrition. Slashing their funding to pay for extending tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy and corporations is unconscionable. This will undoubtedly lead to increased poverty, hunger, and preventable deaths, particularly among vulnerable populations like children and the elderly. I urge you to reject this legislation that sacrifices the wellbeing of our most disadvantaged citizens for the profits of the privileged few. Prioritizing people over profits and protecting vital safety nets should be non-negotiable.
