I strongly urge you not to proceed with the proposed cuts of $351 million to public school funding, as well as the significant increases in funding for private school vouchers outlined in the GOP budget proposal. My son is dyslexic and on an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Private schools are not required to enroll students with disabilities or provide necessary accommodations and services, so the cuts to public schools could undermine the availability of the critical support he needs. Public education is a cornerstone of our society, providing equal opportunity and access to quality learning for all children, regardless of background, abilities, or socioeconomic status. Diverting resources away from public schools and towards private voucher programs undermines this fundamental principle and exacerbates inequalities. Instead, I implore you to maintain robust funding for public schools to ensure they have the resources necessary to deliver an excellent education to every student, including those with disabilities who require specialized services and accommodations.
