Empathy isn’t accountability in Minneapolis
To: Pres. Trump

Your recent shift to a softer tone after the killing of Alex Pretti suggests recognition that what is happening in Minneapolis is serious and disturbing. Acknowledging fear, disruption, and harm to children matters. Stepping back from threats of further escalation matters too.
But words after the fact and a tweak in leadership cannot replace accountability or meaningful change.
Multiple people have been shot during immigration enforcement operations. Two are dead. Children are detained. Armed agents continue to operate in civilian spaces with little public accountability.
Dismissing the resulting outrage as chaos caused by local officials or protesters avoids the real question of whether immigration enforcement is being carried out with restraint, transparency, and respect for civil liberties.
Public trust is not restored by insulating power from scrutiny or asking communities to accept unchecked force. Progress requires clear limits, real accountability, and justification that can withstand public review.
Empathy without accountability is just damage control.
