Stop Trump's Tariffs — Reclaim Congress's Authority Over Trade

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. McClintock, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

July 22

Congress must act now to stop these tariffs and reclaim its constitutional authority over trade policy. These are not abstract policy disagreements — tariffs are taxes, and right now American families are paying them directly through higher prices on groceries, appliances, clothing, and everyday goods. This is a burden that hits working people hardest. The power to regulate trade belongs to Congress, not the executive branch. Allowing the President to unilaterally impose sweeping tariffs without congressional approval sets a dangerous precedent that no lawmaker should be comfortable with, regardless of party. Take back that authority. Pass legislation to rein in executive tariff powers and give American families relief before more damage is done.
