An Open Letter

July 14

I am writing as your constituent because I am deeply concerned by reports that President Trump intends to give a speech attacking Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock by claiming they were not legitimately elected. If he makes those claims, I urge you to reject them publicly and unequivocally. I have been paying close attention to the work of Senators Ossoff and Warnock. I respect their commitment to public service, accountability, and ethical government. They have earned that respect through hard work, careful oversight, and a willingness to tackle difficult issues—not through rhetoric. Senator Ossoff has distinguished himself through his work on federal prison oversight, investigations into unsafe military family housing, and efforts to strengthen ethics and accountability in government. Senator Warnock has worked to expand access to affordable housing and has championed policies intended to help ordinary families rather than large institutional interests. Whether someone agrees with their policies is beside the point. They are duly elected United States senators. They should be debated, challenged, and criticized on the merits of their ideas—not by repeating unsupported claims that they were not legitimately elected. When national leaders undermine certified election results without credible evidence, they undermine confidence in our democratic institutions. They also show disrespect for the Constitution, for the rule of law, and for the authority of states to administer and certify their own elections under our constitutional system. Americans are free to disagree passionately about policy. That is part of democracy. But repeatedly casting doubt on legitimate elections without evidence weakens the very system that allows us to settle those disagreements peacefully. I ask you to defend the integrity of our elections and the constitutional principles that make representative government possible. If President Trump proceeds with this speech and repeats unsupported claims about the legitimacy of Georgia’s Senate elections, I hope you will say clearly that those claims are not supported by the facts and that they have no place in responsible public discourse. I want my elected representatives to stand up for the Constitution, for the integrity of our elections, and for the principle that no individual is more important than the democratic institutions that have sustained this country for nearly 250 years. Thank you for your time, your service, and your consideration.
