I am writing to express my absolute opposition to provisions in the Senate’s current budget reconciliation package that would mandate the sale of millions of acres of our public lands. These lands which include those managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service are meant to remain in public trust and be accessible for all Americans.
This legislation would require the sale of 2–3 million acres of Forest Service and BLM lands, and place more than 250 million acres at risk across 11 Western states. The Senate bill also permits disposals of lands traditionally protected for wildlife habitat, recreation, wilderness-study areas, and migration corridors, all without meaningful public input.
Our public lands are critical to outdoor recreation, conservation, Tribal heritage, biodiversity, and climate resilience. As your consistent, I am asking you too not support this budget reconciliation which will create the gravest threat to public lands we have ever seen.
