The President of the United States said this on camera, in the Oval Office, to the world: “Spain has been terrible. We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain.” Spain’s crime? Refusing to let Trump use their military bases for a war that Congress never authorized and that violated the War Powers Act. Spain followed its own laws. Trump declared economic war on them for it. Before you call this an isolated incident, answer this question publicly and on the record: Can you name a single democratic ally Trump has NOT threatened since taking office? Because here is the list of ones he has. Denmark — threatened with military seizure. Canada — tariffed and threatened. The UK — publicly humiliated. France — private communications leaked. Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland — all hit with punishing tariffs. And now Spain — cut off entirely for saying no to an illegal war. The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace concluded that after a full year of allies trying to accommodate Trump, his administration considers their cooperation a sign of weakness and keeps escalating. There is no appeasing this. There is only stopping it. That is your job. Return to Washington immediately. Reconvene Congress now. Pass legislation blocking Trump from using trade as a weapon against democratic allies. Hold emergency hearings. Send a formal bipartisan statement to every NATO ally that Congress — not Trump — speaks for America’s values. This is not about Spain.
