President Biden's Campaign

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley, Rep. Blumenauer

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

July 12

I am one of the many Americans who witnessed the President Biden's performance in the debate against former President Trump. The first 15 minutes of that debate was so alarming I found myself extremely distressed and anxious that our country was doomed to endure another for years of a Trump presidency that I don't believe our country will survive. I wasn't just alarmed that President Biden had a bad night. I'm not just alarmed that he demonstrated signs of a significant cognitive design. I am concerned that it appears that the administration and campaign have actively worked to hide this from the American people and the leadership of the Democratic party. I'm alarmed that all President Biden talks about is his lifetime of accomplishments, not that they aren't many and significant. Last night during during the press conference, President Biden claimed he wasn't done with his job, yet the more the President talks the clearer it becomes that he is running on a platform of "I'm better for the country than Trump." Our country cannot remain a global leader if the best we can do is put forward a candidate who is merely better for the country than his opponents. We are at a pivotal crossroads between the past and our future. We desperately need a president that has a clear vision for what our country can be in the future. President Biden has failed to make that case repeatedly. He couldn't articulate it at the debate. When George Stephanopoulos tried to push him to provide that as proof he could do the job going forward, he clung desperately to past accomplishments as proof of future performance. It is imperative that our candidates represent what is best for our country and not just meet the low bar of better than Trump. I am grateful to the President for his years of service and leadership. I have great respect for the large numbers of historical leaders he has had the privilege to meet. However, having met Golda Meir won't create a brighter future for our country. I'm imploring the President, his administration and campaign, and the leaders of the Democratic party to recognize that despite the past accomplishments, Joe Biden is not what is best for the United States and step down as a candidate and allow someone with the vision and energy to lead our country forward.
