I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent regarding President Trump’s recent suggestion that peaceful protests could justify invoking the Insurrection Act, as well as his repeated statements about taking control of other nations and territories. Peaceful protest is not a threat to our republic—it is one of its most essential freedoms. The idea that Americans exercising their First Amendment rights could be met with federal troops is not a show of strength; it is a betrayal of the constitutional values you swore to uphold. The Insurrection Act was never meant to be a political tool used to intimidate citizens or suppress dissent. Normalizing that kind of response to lawful protest sets a dangerous precedent that no party, now or in the future, should be able to exploit. I am also alarmed by rhetoric suggesting that the United States should “take over” places like Venezuela, Greenland, or any other sovereign nation. I do not want my country to become a modern empire. I believe in self-determination, international law, and diplomacy—not in coercion, annexation, or threats disguised as national interest. This kind of language damages our credibility abroad and undermines the principles we claim to represent. I want the United States to remain committed to our alliances, especially NATO. Our security, prosperity, and global leadership depend on cooperation with democratic partners, not isolation or imperial ambition. Weakening those alliances while flirting with authoritarian methods at home puts both our democracy and our standing in the world at risk. I urge you to speak out clearly and publicly against: -Any attempt to use the Insurrection Act against peaceful protest, -Any rhetoric or policy that promotes territorial expansion or domination of other countries, -And any actions that weaken our alliances or erode constitutional protections. Please represent the values of democracy, restraint, and respect for both our citizens and the sovereignty of other nations. I expect you to defend civil liberties at home and principled leadership abroad.
