have no problem with presenting a State or Federally issued ID at the polls, but I am opposed to the SAVE Act's unwieldy mandate for types of allowable identification. I had a difficult time procuring my PA REAL ID, because my married name does not match the name on my birth certificate. A DMV agent told me and others in line that a marriage certificate is "ceremonial" and does not qualify as a legal proof of name change. I was told on two different occasions that I had to go to court to legally change my name.
I am fortunate that I had the time and wherewithal to secure legal documents at two different courthouses. Many Pennsylvanians do not.
If the government demands particular documentation, then a path to obtaining it must also be provided gratis or at a nominal fee. And NO further restrictions should be imposed for the upcoming midterm elections.
If such amendments are not made to SAVE, then a NO vote should be cast.
