I am writing as a concerned constituent from Thornton to urge you to oppose the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” currently being advanced through the budget reconciliation process.
While I understand the desire to pass broad legislation efficiently, bundling so many unrelated measures into a single vote undermines transparency, limits debate, and denies the public and lawmakers the opportunity to fully understand and weigh each component.
Most troubling to me are the reported provisions that would slash funding for critical programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and federal student aid. These programs are lifelines for millions of Americans — families, seniors, students, and vulnerable individuals who depend on them for healthcare, food security, and access to education. Cutting them in the name of political expediency or fiscal optics would be both short-sighted and harmful.
These are not just numbers on a spreadsheet. They represent real people facing real struggles. Pulling the rug out from under them would have devastating ripple effects across our communities and economy.
I respectfully ask you to vote against the One Big Beautiful Bill and instead champion legislation that strengthens — rather than weakens — the basic supports that help Americans live with dignity, opportunity, and hope.
Thank you for your time and your continued service to our district.
