Constitution — Not a Blank Check for the Executive Branch I am a constituent in your district and I am writing because what just happened with the IRS and the White House isn’t something I can stay quiet about — and I don’t think you can either, not if you mean what you say about the Constitution and protecting taxpayers. On May 18, 2026, the Justice Department quietly created a $1.776 billion fund using taxpayer money — with no vote in Congress, no public list of who gets paid, and no independent oversight. It was set up as part of a settlement the President negotiated with the government he himself controls. NPR and PolitiFact have both confirmed the details. As part of that same deal, the President, his sons, and his businesses were permanently exempted from IRS audits — for any tax return filed before May 18th. The New York Times estimates this saves him around $100 million in taxes he may have owed. Small businesses in this district get audited every year. Ordinary working people get audited. The President of the United States just made himself permanently exempt. That is not small government. That is a protected class. When Congress asked the Acting Attorney General directly whether people convicted of crimes on January 6th could collect money from this fund, he refused to rule it out. So we may be looking at convicted criminals receiving taxpayer-funded payouts — secretly, with no disclosure required, and no vote taken by the people’s representatives. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes people give up on democracy entirely. I don’t care which party is in the White House — no president should be able to spend $2 billion in taxpayer money on a self-serving deal, bypassing Congress and the courts, in secret. That’s not a conservative value. That’s not any American value. Here is what I am asking you to do: 1. Make sure Congress votes on this. Don’t let it be buried. Demand a full public accounting of where every dollar of that fund goes and who receives it. 2. Support a law requiring that any settlement a president makes with his own government gets independent review. No president from either party should be able to be on both sides of a deal with taxpayer money. 3. Make sure people convicted of crimes cannot receive a taxpayer-funded payout. That should not even be a debate. 4. Restore the principle that every American — including the president — is subject to the same tax laws. Equal treatment under the law is not optional. I will be paying close attention to how you respond to this, and so will a lot of people I know. I’m not asking you to oppose anyone. I’m asking you to stand up for the people who sent you there.
