I strongly oppose the proposed $1.1 billion funding cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which would devastate local NPR and PBS stations nationwide. These cuts threaten essential public media that provide critical news coverage, educational programming, and emergency alerts to communities.
Federal funding for public broadcasting accounts for less than 1/100th of the federal budget but delivers immense value, supporting a network of over 1,000 radio stations and 336 television stations. These stations serve as vital sources of trustworthy journalism, thoughtful discussions, and enriching cultural content, especially for rural and low-income communities often overlooked by commercial media.
A well-funded public broadcasting system is crucial to a healthy democracy. Cutting its budget undermines access to information and threatens press freedom. Congress must make preserving this vital public resource a top priority to ensure all Americans—regardless of income or location—continue to have access to high-quality educational and journalistic programming. Please oppose cuts to CPB.
