No big ugly bill
To: Rep. Bacon
From: A constituent in Omaha, NE

Medicaid work requirements are an unnecessary paperwork hurdle that will, in effect, cause Nebraskans who have been working(!) to lose health coverage due to not filling out a form that would be similar to filing tax returns every month. The most poor and vulnerable Nebraskans receiving an extra task on their workload. Incredible. Its a cut with extra steps. Is Don Bacon being dishonest or ignorant about this? Let’s all keep our heads cool and not accuse each other of exaggerating lol, but just focus on the facts here. The budget bill will eventually lead to likely hospital closures and affect the care of all Nebraskans whether we use medicaid, the ACA, or private insurance. Instead of contriving people into just getting employer insurance, what if you took out all the profit seeking middlemen and just gave people healthcare? Healthcare is a human right that should not be locked behind a paywall. We live in the richest country in human history. It is diabolical to allow our citizens to suffer and die by withholding and creating artificial scarcity of medical care because they couldn’t pay the capitalism markups.
RE: tax cuts. Let’s focus now on the lowest income Nebraskans. How will the tax cuts affect them? Have you considered how the barriers/cuts the budget bill would create to social safety nets will lead to increased food and medical expenses for these vulnerable populations? Please consider the many economic studies coming out of American universities that demonstrate how the bill benefits the wealthiest citizens most, and actually hurt the working poor.
