Investigate Musk's DOGE team access to sensitive data

To: Sen. Mullin, Rep. Bice, Sen. Lankford

From: A constituent in Guthrie, OK

February 4, 2025

The actions of Elon Musk's DOGE team to gain unauthorized access to the Treasury Department's payment systems and citizens' financial data raise serious concerns about privacy violations and the rule of law. Allowing an unelected individual with clear conflicts of interest to wield such sweeping control over sensitive government functions is unprecedented and poses grave risks to the integrity of our democratic institutions. We urge you to take immediate action to block DOGE from accessing any systems containing personal financial information of American citizens, including tax refunds, benefits payments, and loan records. This overreach of authority by a private citizen is unacceptable and lacks proper oversight or legal justification. Preserving the confidentiality of people's financial data must be a top priority. Furthermore, there are troubling reports that DOGE staff without proper security clearances have sought access to classified materials at agencies like USAID. Strict procedures exist for granting clearances to protect national security. Any violations of these protocols could compromise sensitive information and intelligence operations. Swift Congressional oversight is crucial to rein in this disturbing abuse of power by Musk's DOGE team before further damage is done. We call on you to vigorously investigate these concerning activities that threaten core principles of privacy, transparency, and democratic accountability in our government. Immediate steps must be taken to safeguard citizen data and restore proper boundaries.
